Skincare Tips for Summer Travel
Tarrah Bouts, Owner & Licensed Esthetician
It’s that wonderful time of year: school is out and you have a family vacation planned for the beach. You’ve thought of everything (for everyone else). Don’t forget to pack YOUR essentials for healthy skin. It’s easy to let your skincare routine slide while you are traveling, but you shouldn’t. Extra time spent out in the sun can wreak havoc on your complexion as well as the rest of your skin. And if you have to take a plane to get to your destination, you start off dehydrated. While you may not want to pack all of your skincare products, there are some that you definitely should find room for in your bag.
Here are our summer travel ‘must-haves” for healthy skin:
SPF: As a licensed esthetician, I have to start with this product. Please, please, please remember to pack plenty of SPF for you and your family. I know some of you worry about putting SPF lotion on your face because of breakout issues, but there are special products made just for the skin on your face. We carry a wonderful SPF lotion from Face Reality that is good for all skin types. Team AG highly recommends it year round, but definitely in the sunny summer months.
A good cleanser: Heat and humidity will gunk up your skin very quickly. That’s a technical term 😉. You will want to make sure you have a cleanser that will cut through any makeup, sweat and dirt (sounds lovely, doesn’t it?!?). One we love here at Amelia Gray is the Ultra Gentle Cleanser from Face Reality. And bonus, because it has a very reasonable price point and it is safe for all skin types, you can pack this for your whole family to use.
Hydration: There are many ways to keep your skin hydrated. You can choose a lotion for daily use, you can use masks for an extra boost, and you can use makeup products that also contain moisturizers. If you are trying to lighten your travel load and don’t want to pack multiple bottles and jars, try tossing a couple Get Dewy With It sheet masks from Patchology in your bag. These will help rescue dry skin that just spent a day in the sun. We also love the Complexion Rescue from Bare Minerals and Halo Tinted Moisturizer from Smashbox. Both of these products are quick and easy to apply and they will even out your skin while giving it a nice hydrated glow (and bonus, they both have SPF for a little extra protection!)
We also want you to plan ahead when you know you will be heading out to the beach or anywhere else that is sunny. Please do not schedule any advanced treatments at least a week prior to your trip. Examples of the treatments to avoid would be any chemical peels or dermaplane. All you need to do is let your esthetician know about your travel plans and she can help you work around them. If you do happen to need to be in the sun after having one of these services, please remember to apply plenty of SPF and reapply more often than you usually do to protect those fresh new skin cells that are now on the surface.
One last thing, in case you didn’t know, we carry travel-sized bottles of both Redken and Pureology hair care products. Stop in and pick some up before your next trip!
We hope this little list helps you stay on top of your skincare while you travel. If you have any questions or specific skincare concerns, you can always ask one of our Guest Experts or your esthetician.
Safe Travels and HAVE FUN!!!!!!!
