Have you ever walked into a store ready to buy yourself something nice, a little treat just for you, but you quickly got overwhelmed by all the choices and ended up walking out with nothing? We’ve all done that at least once. Well, Team AG does NOT want you to miss out on the great savings on masks in March, so we thought we’d put together a little primer on them to help you decide which one (or several, because, you know, SELF-CARE!) to pick up for 20% off.

Welcome to Mask 101

Lesson 1: Let’s start with the basics.

Why use masks anyway?

Well, that’s an easy answer - they are FUN to use! Okay, but seriously, masks are a great way to take a little time (just 15 minutes or so) for yourself and give your face, hair, lips, hands or feet some extra pampering and to help solve a wide variety of concerns. If you regularly add them into your self-care routines you will see and feel some instant results as well as benefits longer term. And, if you are investing in things like manicures, pedicures, facials, and professional hair care, using masks in between your scheduled services can help prolong and protect your results!

What will using a mask do for me?

That depends! Are you looking to add extra hydration to your hair or skin, remove dull, dry skin, repair some damaged hair, or protect your new hair color? Maybe you are heading out for Spring Break and want to make sure your winter feet come out of hibernation “flip-flop ready”? Do your lips feel dry and cracked and using lipstick only makes them worse? Maybe you’ve been hiding your “winterized” hands because of cracked cuticles with skin that feels like sandpaper? These are just some of the things that masks can fix for you.

Lesson 2: A Little Closer Look

How long do they take and how often should I use them?

The average time for masks is around 15 minutes, but they do all vary slightly. It’s really not that difficult (we hope) to find a little extra time in your routine about once a week. Some masks, like the ones for your face or under eyes, can be used up to three times a week if you want to really see more consistent results. And hey, if you want, we will tell your significant other that masks take at least an hour and you MUST be left completely alone with no distractions for them to work properly. (wink, wink)

Will adding masks into my routine be expensive?

Not really! First, we have masks to fit most budgets. You can pick some up for as little as $5. Second, if you are using masks regularly, you could actually end up spending less on scheduled services. For example, your hair color will be protected and last a little longer when you use Pureology’s Color Fanatic hair mask. As much as we LOVE to see you for your skin and hair care services, we also want to help you make the the results last as long as possible in between visits!

What brands and varieties of masks do you carry at Amelia Gray?

We have masks from Patchology, Face Reality, BioElements, and Pureology, and each of these brands have several different options for you to choose from. Here are just a few of our favorites:

Face Reality’s HydraCalm mask ranks high on our favorites list because ANYONE can use it. This mask will intensely hydrate your skin while still being safe for those who struggle with acne issues. The added moisture actually off-sets oil production making this the most universal face mask we offer.

The Perfect Ten bundle includes both hand and foot masks at a very reasonable price point. We love these because they just feel so good. They are warm and hydrating and work to exfoliate, especially on your feet.

The satin eye mask we offer is also a favorite and not one that many people think of when it comes to masks. But using one, especially if you are a side sleeper, can help you keep the skin around your eyes looking great. The mask not only protects your delicate eye area by keeping it from rubbing on your pillow covering, it also helps keep those night eye serums and lotions from rubbing off so they can do their job.
